VA Medical Center to benefit from poker run

The public is invited to participate in “RIDE FOR THE VETS” on Sept. 25, a poker run benefiting Veterans served by the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center and its outpatient clinics.  Proceeds will be used to purchase comfort items such as toiletries, shaving gear, and socks, as well as help towards hosting a Valentines for Veterans Concert in Muskogee in February featuring country music star Lorrie Morgan.

The Poker Run will begin at the Ernest Childers VA Outpatient Clinic in Tulsa with a free breakfast, bug dots and event t-shirts for purchase, and the first Poker hand at 9 a.m. Cost per hand is $5.  The clinic is located at 9322 E. 41st St.

Riders will make stops or can buy-in at the VFW Post in Claremore (1717 W. DuPont), American Legion Post in Pryor (1105 W. Graham), Elks Lodge in Wagoner (33604 Long Bay Road), ending with the last bike at 2 p.m. at the Creek Nation Casino in Muskogee (3420 West Peak Boulevard).

The Creek Nation Casino will also host a buffet with a live band and $1,000 in prizes. There will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, door prizes, and a special auction for an American flag flown in an U.S. Army helicopter in Iraq.  Participants must be 21 years old to enter the casino.

Communities along the route are encouraged to come out and welcome riders, many of whom are Veterans helping Veterans.
